Ear Wax Removal in London
Blocked or muffled hearing
Sound seems dulled or distant, often in one ear more than the other. A build-up of wax can block the canal and affect how well you hear.
Earache
An ache or a feeling of pressure in the ear. Wax pressing against the canal is one common cause of it.
Ringing in the ears
Tinnitus — ringing, buzzing or humming with no outside source. It is among the symptoms a wax blockage can produce.
A feeling of fullness
The sense that the ear is full or stopped up, as though it needs to pop and will not. Hard or impacted wax often presents this way.
Itching or irritation
The ear feels itchy or irritated inside rather than sore. Wax sitting against the canal is one of the things that can cause it.
A hearing aid that whistles or will not sit
An aid that squeals, cuts in and out or feels loose. Wax in the canal is a common reason, and aids often settle once it is cleared.

Private ear wax removal in London
Microsuction ear wax removal in London
Private ear wax removal is a quick, straightforward way to clear a blocked ear, with no referral needed. Microsuction draws the wax out under a microscope, easing the earache, muffled hearing or blocked-up feeling that a build-up can cause.
Because microsuction uses gentle suction rather than water, there is no syringing and nothing is flushed into the ear. The clinician can see the canal through the microscope the whole time they are working, and will talk you through what they are doing as they go.
What happens during microsuction?
You sit down and the clinician examines the ear, looking into the canal through a microscope. That view is what makes the method precise: they can see the wax and the tip of the instrument at the same time, throughout.
A fine suction device then draws the wax out. No water is used, so nothing is flushed into the canal and there is nothing to dry afterwards. Most people find it comfortable and describe the sound as the noticeable part rather than any discomfort. The removal itself takes a few minutes; allow around 15 to 30 minutes for the appointment, which varies with how much wax is there.
There is nothing to recover from. You can hear the difference straight away in most cases, and you can get on with your day as soon as you leave.
Before you come: if you have been using drops, or you are not sure whether you should, call 020 8920 3129 before your appointment and we will tell you what to do.
Why choose microsuction?
Microsuction uses gentle suction to lift the wax out, with no water and no flushing. That precision is what makes it suitable for sensitive ears, and for ears that have had trouble with other methods.
The clinician works under a microscope, looking directly into the canal — so they can see the wax and the instrument at the same time and keep control of both. The procedure usually takes only a few minutes, and the same direct view is what makes it effective on wax that has gone hard or impacted.
It also keeps the ear dry. Irrigation clears wax by flushing water into the canal; microsuction introduces nothing, so there is nothing to dry out afterwards. It suits ears that drops have not shifted, sensitive ears, hearing-aid wearers whose moulds have stopped sitting properly, and anyone left uncomfortable by syringing before.
It is carried out at our own clinic in London and needs no GP referral. If you have had recent ear surgery or a perforated eardrum, or there is pain, discharge or bleeding from the ear, see your GP first — those need looking at before any wax removal.

What is microsuction?
Microsuction is a method of removing a build-up of ear wax. A gentle suction device is used under a microscope to draw excess wax out of the ear canal. No water is used.
Why might I need ear microsuction?
You might need it if you have earache, hearing loss, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), or a sensation of fullness in the ear. These can be caused by a build-up of ear wax blocking the canal and affecting your hearing. Microsuction is particularly effective at removing hard or impacted wax that has not responded to other methods.
Is microsuction safe?
Microsuction is considered a safe method of ear wax removal when it is carried out by a trained healthcare professional. It is gentle and precise, which reduces the risk of injury to the ear canal.
Is microsuction painful?
It is typically not painful. Most people find it a comfortable procedure and it is generally well tolerated.
Who can benefit from microsuction?
It is suitable for anyone with excess ear wax, including people with sensitive ears and those prone to ear infections. It is particularly effective at removing hard or impacted wax that has not responded to other methods.
How long does an appointment take?
Microsuction appointments usually take around 15 to 30 minutes, though this varies with the amount of wax present and what you need.
How often should I have it done?
That depends on your own circumstances. Some people need it only once; others who are prone to a heavy build-up come back regularly. The clinician who sees you can advise on what suits you.
