Contraception in London
Coil and implant care in London
We fit and remove contraceptive coils and implants, and we give contraception advice matched to your circumstances. You do not need a GP referral, and the fee for each appointment is published below.
Every fitting starts with a short consultation — 15 minutes, in person or over the telephone — so that the options, the procedure and the possible side effects have been discussed before the day.
Before and during a fitting
The consultation comes first. It is a 15-minute appointment with the doctor, and it can be done in person or over the telephone. Several coil types are available, and this is where the choice between them is made — along with the fitting procedure itself, the possible complications and the side effects.
The fitting is then booked as a 30-minute appointment. That is longer than the procedure needs, deliberately, so there is time to settle rather than to rush. Local anaesthetic is given for your comfort.
A coil fitting can be uncomfortable and some people find it painful. A local anaesthetic can help — talk it through with the clinician at the consultation before you decide.

Removals
A coil removal is a short appointment, usually finished within 15 minutes. Contraception advice is included if you want to talk about what comes next.
An implant removal takes about 30 minutes and is carried out under local anaesthetic. If the implant has moved from where it was placed the removal can be more involved; the clinician will explain what that means before anything is done.

Brilliant service from booking appt to having the scan and report. The sonographer was extremely knowledgable and had a great bedside manner. I went on 29/12 and I didn't catch the name of the lady but I have to say she answered all my questions thoroughly and honestly.
Dr Bhagat was exceptionally thorough and reassuring. He explained the X-ray and ultrasound results clearly, ruling out any serious concerns and recommending the best next steps. His calm and caring approach put us at ease throughout. Highly recommended.
Went for some diagnostic tests and was seen within hours of contact with Jose. The tests were completed quickly, with everything fully explained and a report provided within 24 hours. Extremely efficient and friendly service. Special thanks to Jose.
Superb service. I had an US for my soft tissue, very welcoming staff. The sonographer was thorough, friendly and accurate. I would chose this place again and highly recommended if you could choose to have your In-Health scans.

I was able to get an appointment for an ultrasound scan within a few days for a reasonable cost and the service was very friendly and efficient and got the scan report back within a couple of hours.
huge thank you to Doctor Jawad Yahya from the bottom of my heart for being an amazing doctor. Thank you for referring me to Doctor Hossein Rostamipour (consultant psychiatrist) for ADHD assessment.
Excellent practice. Friendly, welcoming personnel and the venue is clean and modern. The radiologist was pleasant and explained everything clearly. Highly recommended.
Frequently Asked Questions
The questions people ask us most often about coil and implant appointments.
Cannot see yours? Get in touch or call — we would rather answer it than have you guess.
Do I need a consultation before a coil or implant fitting?
Yes. The clinic asks for a 15-minute consultation first, in person or over the telephone. It covers the options available, the fitting itself, possible complications and the side effects, so that nothing is being decided on the day of the procedure.
What happens at the fitting appointment?
A 30-minute appointment is set aside, which is longer than the procedure needs, so there is time to feel prepared. Local anaesthetic is given for your comfort.
Is a coil fitting painful?
It can be uncomfortable and some people find it painful. A local anaesthetic can help, and it is worth talking through with the clinician at the consultation before you decide.
How is a coil removed?
Coil removal is a short appointment, usually finished within 15 minutes. Contraception advice can be included if you want to discuss what happens next.
How is an implant removed?
Implant removal takes about 30 minutes and is carried out under local anaesthetic. If the implant has moved from where it was placed the removal can be more involved; the clinician will explain what that means for you.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can arrange these appointments with the clinic directly.
How do I book?
These appointments are arranged by telephone rather than online, because the consultation has to come first. Call 020 8920 3129 or email Queries@theldc.co.uk and the team will arrange it with you.
